Why Podcast Listeners Matter in the AI Era

Podcast listeners are active AI users who expect transparency. Learn how advertisers can build trust through credible voices and clear disclosures.

Oct 12, 2026

When we talk about AI, we tend to lump people into two buckets: the tech-obsessed early adopters and the cautious skeptics. But if you look at podcast listeners, that framing is way too simple.

SiriusXM Media’s 2026 AI Soundboard Study found that podcast listeners are highly engaged with the technology: 76% of them are active generative AI users, 47% use it weekly, and 59% rely on it at their jobs. However, just because they are frequent users doesn’t mean they let brands off the hook when it comes to honesty. In fact, they expect serious transparency from the brands they buy from—91% of podcast listeners want companies to disclose when they use AI and 87% want a clear heads-up if an ad features AI-generated content or voices.

Here’s why advertisers shouldn't ignore this audience: Podcast listeners are actively using AI, but they aren’t blind to its shortcomings. If you want to position your brand as a trusted, responsible AI leader, they are exactly who you need to be talking to.

The new daily essential

For many podcast listeners, AI has become a practical, everyday tool. Among podcast listeners who use AI, 60% tap into it occasionally for simple tasks, while 26% use it regularly for everyday activities. But they aren’t just doing the basics. Podcast listeners are 13% more likely than digital audio listeners 18 and up to use AI for advanced tasks such as data analysis or coding (113 index).

What’s noteworthy is that they aren't just loyal to one AI platform. The average listener knows at least six AI tools and actively uses two. And when it comes to specific platforms, a few clear favorites emerge—34% of podcast listeners use ChatGPT, and 26% use Google Gemini.

The takeaway for advertisers: Podcast listeners are already highly familiar with AI. They have hands-on experience with the leading platforms and have integrated the tech into both their personal and professional lives. That means simply stating your brand or product isn’t enough. To actually win them over, brands need to explain exactly how their AI works and the value it brings to the table.

Part of the consumer journey

AI is relevant to more brands than you might expect. With 79% of podcast listeners finding it useful across a range of activities, its influence is extending into more aspects of their everyday lives.  And it’s an important part of their shopping and decision-making journeys.

With AI playing a growing role in the consumer research phase, brand visibility and credibility are more important than ever. For AI advertisers, podcasts provide a powerful bridge between innovation and trust, using credible voices to make complex messages clear, accessible, and relevant. Within this trusted environment, brands can build familiarity, strengthen consumer confidence, and gain a distinct competitive advantage.

Powering the workplace

AI adoption is prominent among podcast listeners in professional settings, with 60% reporting that they use AI for work-related tasks. Among those utilizing AI professionally, the top use cases include a mix of writing, editing, research, and more.

Together, these use cases show that podcast listeners are increasingly integrating AI into the everyday tasks that keep their work moving, making efficiency a daily priority. For brands, this creates an opportunity to position their products and services as part of the solutions consumers use to work smarter. Podcasts provide the context, voices, and environment to bring that value to life, helping advertisers connect with an audience that uses AI to optimize both their workday and their daily routines.

The path from adoption to trust

Podcast listeners may be embracing AI, but regular use has not erased their concerns. Even as they incorporate the technology into their personal and professional lives, 60% remain concerned about AI’s growing influence on everyday life, while only 21% feel excited about it. That skepticism extends to both the tools and the companies behind them. Just 36% trust information generated by AI, compared with 39% who distrust it, and confidence in AI companies is even lower, with 51% of podcast listeners expressing distrust.

Simply put, adoption has outpaced trust. Podcast listeners recognize AI’s usefulness, but they are also evaluating the technology carefully and holding the companies behind it to a higher standard.

For advertisers, transparency is the first step toward closing that trust gap. The data reinforces that expectation: 91% of podcast listeners agree that companies should disclose when AI is used and 87% believe ads featuring AI-generated voices or content should include disclosure.  But disclosure alone is not enough. Listeners also want proof that AI is accurate, responsibly managed, and designed with their privacy in mind.

The message is clear: Credibility requires openness backed by proof. Brands need to disclose when AI is being used, demonstrate that its information is accurate, and explain privacy practices in plain language. That means making it easy for consumers to understand where information comes from and how their data is collected and protected.

These expectations also shape the types of AI messaging podcast listeners want to hear. Rather than seeking broad claims about innovation, they are looking for clear, practical information that explains how AI is being used, what value it provides, and what protections are in place.

As a whole, these findings give brands a clear roadmap for building trust:

  • Disclose when AI is used

  • Demonstrate its accuracy

  • Explain the safeguards behind it

  • Show how it delivers practical value in people’s lives

The strongest AI messaging turns trust from a claim into something audiences can see and evaluate for themselves.

Trust starts with the right voice

Podcast listeners are adopting AI with both curiosity and caution, and SiriusXM Media gives brands the scale and trusted voices needed to engage them meaningfully. Reaching 86M weekly podcast consumers and housing more shows in the top 10, 25, and 50 podcast rankers than any other network, SiriusXM Media connects brands with some of the biggest influential voices (MrBallen, Stephanie Soo, Conan) in the game.

Through these credible voices, brands can demonstrate the tangible value of their AI technology, explain how consumer data is protected, and show that responsible safeguards are built in. Podcasts provide the time and trusted context to make complex AI messages clear, relevant, and relatable—helping audiences understand not only what a brand’s AI does, but why it deserves their trust.
